Company

ABS was established in 1989 by merging two highly qualified steelworks with many years’ experience: “Officine Bertoli" founded in 1813 and "S.a.f.a.u." whose origins date back to 1909.
The company’s production is spread over three plants in the province of Udine, which cover a total surface area of 730,000 m2 of which 189,000 covered.
Today, the company has reached a technical level such that it is able to supply special steels for the most varied applications: from motor vehicles to industrial vehicles to the mechanical industry and machines in general, weldless pipes for the mechanical and petrochemical industry, gas cylinders for high pressures and temperatures, bearings and special profiles for earthmoving machines and railway equipment, as well as rolling and forging.

Our solution

In the heavy iron industry with its particular weighing conditions at temperatures around 400°C, specific systems were required to weigh large bars.
The overall system required the use of two independent structures: one suitable to support any overloads and/or accidental impact, and one complete with weighing system.
A first structure allows placing the product on the weighing system for weight measurement. The handling system is driven by the operator and is composed of special pneumatic mechanisms.
The products are weighed in proximity of where they come out of the rolling process; the bar is picked up by a magnet and, still hot, is deposited on the structure.
For this application specific heat dispersers have been used to protect the load cells.
That way, the quantity of product weighed is acquired immediately after processing and the data sent to the corporate management system.
The electronic terminal is integrated in a console adjacent to the weighing system and includes all the essential controls to activate the weight handling and data acquisition operations.

Advantages

  • Weighing in the processing area
  • Handling time saving
  • Weight controlled directly at the beginning of production
  • Weight data transmission to the management system
  • PC control integrated in the console.
